How can I interact with my little cousins?
Heya,
I’m 14 years old. Today, my uncle’s family came over. They have 2 little kids. One is 6 and one is 9. What activities would they enjoy as well as me? They both are still amateurs at catching so I couldn’t play a ball game. They enjoy table tennis and I have table tennis set. They like video games. We only have a PS2. Also, we live in Australia. Quite hot. The family will be staying here for a maximum of 35 days.
PS I need to get them to be busy as I don’t want them to muck up my stuff.
Your cousins sound pretty similar to mine; mine are now 6 and 10, and I’m 20. I’m much older than them, but I have been very close with them since they were babies so I have been lucky to learn about them and be there when they experience new things. Try to find out what your cousins enjoy; they’re old enough that they should be able to identify what hobbies and pastimes they find themselves engaging in all the time. For example, my 6-yr-old boy cousin loves trains and trucks, playing racing video games, and reading books about sharks, and he loves to talk about what he’s reading or the new things he’s learned to do or learned about. My 10-yr-old girl cousin likes arts and crafts, so many times we’ll do an art project together or take funny pictures with each other.
Talk to them – they should appreciate being asked about their interests and will really appreciate being acknowledged as people by an older cousin to whom they can look up. Don’t treat them like babies because that tends to make them dislike you and close up. If they talk to you, you’ll be surprised at the things you guys can discover together, and the things that come out of their mouths that you’d never expect!
Hope this helps.
