Can you go beyond the end line during a rally in table tennis?

I’ve encountered this on multiple occasions, but it’s not specifically stated in the USATT rules. I know that the ball and racket MUST be behind the end line and above the playing surface prior to a serve, but once the rally commences, can a player go beyond the end line in order to return a ball, like having to return a short angle shot? People here told me that you can’t, but I feel you should still have the opportunity to return the ball.

If you have ever watched tournaments on TV you will notice the players play the entire area and surface. Once the ball is in play it is in play from any angle or line, providing of course you don’t play in the area of your opponants net. Good luck and have a great time.
