Is it true that the mood of a nation affects it’s economy?
If so, to what degree?
A lot of people say national, major sporting success is an example….
So…..
IF this summer, Andy Murray had got to the final of Wimbledon, only to be narrowly beaten in 5 sets by a resurgent Tim Henman, who having ripped off his cream suit live on air, stormed onto centre court and played a level of grass-court serve-and-volley tennis not seen whence or since…. IF our sorry England football team had qualified for and won the European Championship…. IF we had done even better and beaten China in the Olympic medal table…..
Would be better off now? I personally think NO, but many argue events such as these can have a positive, ripple effect…..
The health of an economy hinges upon many things – but one of them is cashflow. And this is, most definitely, dictated by the mood of the country’s people. When nervous about their financial future, people put off purchases. And when this becomes rampant, the consumer economy grinds to a halt.
Table tennis European championship Boll/Schlager BIG POINT!
